Review

This review applies to version 4.2 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

Covenant Eyes is an accountability application for Windows. No! It does not have anything to do with Accounting. It simply spies on you and stabs you in the back. That is a dramatization, but that is exactly what it does, with your consent. When you install this sneaky application in your system, it will start monitoring all your Internet browsing. It will create complete reports of every website you visit and when you do. That is not all, though. It has an interesting use and adds a feature called Accountability Partners. Those are the people that you trust to see your reports. The application will schedule to send those reports to those partners and they will look through them so that they can discuss what websites are appropriate for you to browse and which are not. This application deals with problems that arise from porn-watching on the clock, I am inclined to believe. I don't see any other reason why you willingly would show anyone what you do on your free time. Maybe therapy, I don't know.
Advantages
  • Depends on who is using the application. Works in Macs too.
Disadvantages
  • Same thing.

I am not sure if your reviewer thinks that CE is a good or a bad thing!
The program works entirely at the user's request and with his consent - in fact you have to subscribe for it to work at all.
The purpose of the program is to help people who have struggles with internet-based addictions, usually to porn but also to gambling and other problems. It does the same as Alcoholics Anonymous does, only it does it online.
I subscribe to the program, and load it onto my computer. The program sits there and simply logs the URL of all my internet browsing, and every week it sends a copy of my log to a trusted friend whom I respect, and who is prepared to challenge me if I am visiting sites that I should not.
So it is not quite true to say that the program stabs me in the back: I use it so that I do not browse the net in secrecy. If my wife were in the room with me, I wouldn't go to visit playboy.com. With CE running, it is as though I have a good friend in theroom with me all the time, and it helps me avoid things that are not good.
